If you see a “D”, it means it was struck in Denver, while an “S” means it was struck in San Francisco. To find out which mint a dime was struck at, look for the mintmark on the reverse side.

The 1940 dime was struck at three locations, Denver, Philadelphia and San Francisco, and the mint at which a dime was struck may affect the value slightly.
